Why saving assets matters

Saved assets are how Preview maintains consistency across scenes and stories. Once an image is saved into the library, you can reference it again by name and reuse it in later prompts.

Asset types in Preview

Preview organizes saved assets into several categories:
  • Characters
  • Props
  • Locations
  • General assets
Each category is best for a different kind of reusable visual building block.

Common ways to save an asset

Across the app, saving usually starts from:
  • A canvas right-click menu
  • The image three-dot menu
  • A library sidebar workflow

Choose the right destination

  • Save a character when the subject is a reusable person or creature.
  • Save a prop when the subject is an isolated object.
  • Save a location when the image defines an environment.
  • Save a general asset when it does not fit the other categories.
Continue to the category pages for the recommended best practices for each asset type.
