How to use the Inpaint tool

Inpainting lets you edit only a selected part of an image while leaving the rest mostly unchanged. You “paint” (mask) the area you want to change, describe what should appear there in the prompt box, and the model fills it in to match the surrounding image. Click on any Image on canvas. You will see the Inpaint icon in the buttons on the right side of the image.

If you are zoomed out and you don’t see the buttons then Right-Click on the image, or select the three dot menu and then choose the Quick Actions icon. Then select Inpaint from the list of Quick Actions.

Once you Click on Inpaint you will enter Inpainting mode. In this mode you will not be able to access other assets on the canvas. And you will be presented with a limited Prompt Box and the inpainting toolbar.
  1. Click the Brush icon in the toolbar to begin painting on the image.
  2. select the Eraser icon in the toolbar to erase your painted marks.
  3. The slider adjusts your brush size.
  4. you can undo and redo your brush/eraser actions.
  5. trash can deletes all painting you’ve done.
  6. clicking the X or pressing Esc will exit you out of Inpaint mode.

How to Inpaint

Use the brush to paint over any part of the image that you want to edit or replace, then type your requested changes into the prompt box and press the generate button. In the image above you can see the dog was painted over and the text entered into prompt was “Change the dog to a cat” This is the resulting image

Inpaint with image references

You can also inpaint using image references if you want your changes to be more specific. For example if you wanted to change the cats sunglasses to a different style. First add the new image of sunglasses as a reference image, paint out only the cats sunglasses and then in the prompt write your desired changes.

If you change scenes or leave the canvas view you will exit inpaint mode
