Preview Agent isn’t a chatbot bolted onto the side of the app. It’s a creative collaborator that sees your whole project and can act anywhere in it: build a shot list, write and edit your script, generate and organize files, or keep a character consistent across sequences.

Open it

Click the glowing orb in the page header, or press ⌘/Ctrl + /, to open it as a chat panel on the right with its own threads: start a new one, rename it, or switch back to an earlier conversation anytime. Each thread’s ⋯ menu also has Export chat, which downloads the conversation as Markdown. Type your message or dictate via the mic icon.

What it can do

  • Bring real filmmaking know-how: cinematography, story development, shot-list planning, strong prompt-writing, and coverage are all built in, alongside every Quick Action.
  • Understand your project: reads your shot lists, sequences, shots, canvases, Scripts, library, tags, and activity history to answer questions and stay in context without re-explaining anything.
  • Write and edit Scripts: create one from scratch, import a screenplay (PDF, Final Draft, Fountain, or text), or edit the open script with reviewable suggestions.
  • Build and edit shot lists: create sequences and shots (including straight from a script), edit shot details and statuses, and assign, move, or copy takes between shots.
  • Manage your library: create and update Characters, Props, and Locations, attach reference images, and link them to shots.
  • Generate images and video: single or batched generations (up to 20 at a time) on any model, with cost shown before anything runs, onto the canvas or into an existing group.
  • Analyze images and video: select a file on canvas, @ it, or upload one, then ask the agent about what it sees; works on takes, library items, uploads, and even image URLs.
  • Assemble video: stitch up to 8 takes end to end into a single clip, with audio kept or muted.
  • Transform files for free: resize, crop, split a multi-shot video, or extract a frame instantly instead of paying for a regeneration.
  • Search the web: pull in outside references or images when a prompt needs them.
  • Keep a paper trail: files it generates are marked as co-authored, with a link back to the chat that made them, visible from File View and the canvas.

Working with it

  • Reference anything: type @ for library items, uploads, past generations, and Scripts, or use the + Add reference menu. Click to pick lets you grab files straight off the canvas, and holding Shift picks several in one go.
  • Recall past prompts: with the caret at the start of the composer, ↑ steps back through your last prompts (per project), ↓ returns to your draft.
  • Stay in control mid-turn: Stop halts a running turn; Queue message lines your next instruction up behind it.
  • Keep working during generations: kick off a batch and keep chatting; running jobs collect in a Background generations list in the panel, and results land in the project like any other take.

Approving generations

  • Ask (default): every generation pauses in chat for your approval before it runs. The approval card shows the settings: tweak the aspect ratio from its ratio pill, or use Batch edit to change model, quality, or duration across the whole batch before approving.
  • Auto: skips approval, for when you just want it to handle everything.
Switch modes from the Ask / Auto pill in the composer (also under Settings › More settings › General).

Agent settings

The Settings button in the chat header sets Default AI models; More settings opens the full Agent settings dialog:
  • General: confirmation mode and default models.
  • Personalization: a Tone of voice dropdown (Direct, Clear, Neutral, Warm, Efficient (the default), or Detailed) and a Custom instructions box (up to 4,000 characters). Use it for standing creative guidance: your visual style, formats you always want, phrasing to avoid, how much explanation you like. It shapes how the agent writes and generates; it can’t override its safety or review behavior. Saved in this browser and applied to all your projects here; it doesn’t sync across devices.
  • Skills: reusable instructions the agent follows for specific jobs. Browse them from the Skills button in the composer, create one with New skill, or manage them with Manage skills.
  • MCP: Connect a server by name and URL to hand the agent your own tools: a tracker like Linear, or anything else that speaks MCP.
Found a flow you’ll want again (a coverage pattern, a naming routine, an export ritual)? Tell the agent to turn it into a skill. It can write the skill itself from what you just did together, and it’ll be there for every future chat in the project.

You can’t delete anything through Preview Agent; delete manually instead.
